While I'd like to make a history site about Mound and the Minnetonka,
I am 2,000 miles from the needed archives, so that's not going to
happen any time soon. A couple times per week I see graphics on the web relating to the area. They are most often poor quality scans of post cards, but they're interesting for someone like me who has never seen them before and/or has been away from "home" for decades. I'll post as I find them if I feel they're interesting. While the people who live in the Minnetonka area are flooded with related information both current and historical, both types are far more rare for people like me who are living in other countries or states. If you are living "remote" as I am then you may enjoy looking at these. When you're finished send me some digital images of your old Mound photo's or other ephemera attached as a JPE, JPG or GIF to Email, with or without your narrative and moniker for attribution. If you know anything about these pictures or something else related I'd like to hear about it. If you want to remain anonymous that's fine. In any case, stop by again in a few months as I should have found a few dozen more poor quality scans by then. When ever I find a better example of a picture I already have on this site it replaces the inferior one. |

I have created 430+ pages for now, and will expand as I locate more material. Looking for "anything" of Mound or Lake Minnetonka area 3 Decades old or older. If you would like to post that photo(s) you took of your family or friends in or near Mound decades ago or that advertising from the local drive in theater, or what ever ... attach it to e-mail as a jpeg (jpe jpg)or gif with your comments and who to credit it too. Of course if a photo, it should contain something related to the subject of this site. (I will edit or reject items if needed for legal or practical reasons.) Try to include 'When' , 'Where', 'Who', 'What',and if you are in a philosophical mood, 'Why'. If you send something by email attachment make your subject line the word "History" or "Mound" otherwise it may get lost in the deluge of spam. Picturing Lake Minnetonka
A Post Card History by James W. Ogland and published by the
Minnesota Historical Society. Graphics of far greater quality and variety
than anything you'll find on the net, unless of course you visit the Minnesota
Historical Society. The book is filled with fascinating historical information
about the Lake Minnetonka area. A great gift for anyone who lives near the
"Great Waters" or once did. It is also a great way to support your
historical society and works of local historical importance. I know this sounds like an advertisement but I'm not affiliated in any way to anyone involved with "Picturing Lake Minnetonka". I love history, and believe it's important. If you like what I have on this site you'll probably want this book. |
