When and What: Early 1900s... This is the inside of a typical express steam boat run by the Twin City Lines to connect with small towns along the shores of Minnetonka. In addition to the landing at Chapman's on Cook's Bay another boat landing was farther north at the far end of Lost Lake near where the current Mound Post Office is. (The one built in the 1960s, may be gone now.) There was a canal that connected that landing area with Cook's Bay to the south. On the old pictures of Mound that I have on this site taken from the 1917 Mound High School you can see the tree line bordering this canal. Part of the current "Mound Visions" project is to effectively restore this old canal and landing area. To learn more about this see my LINKs page. The city of Mound has a very good site detailing this project. |

Picturing Lake Minnetonka
A Post Card History by James W. Ogland and published by the
Minnesota Historical Society. Graphics of far greater quality and variety
than anything you'll find on the net, unless of course you visit the Minnesota
Historical Society. The book is filled with fascinating historical information
about the Lake Minnetonka area. A great gift for anyone who lives near the
"Great Waters" or once did. It is also a great way to support your
historical society and works of local historical importance. I know this sounds like an advertisement but I'm not affiliated in any way to anyone involved with "Picturing Lake Minnetonka". I love history, and believe it's important. If you like what I have on this site you'll probably want this book. |
